MANILA, Philippines — Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) marked the 70th anniversary of Japan-Philippines relations by supporting the B.LEAGUE Manila Games 2026, a two-game series held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on September 9 and 10.
The games brought Japan’s professional basketball league closer to Filipino fans, highlighting how shared passions like basketball can create new connections between the two countries.
Basketball Brings Communities Together

The Manila Games highlighted the growing people-to-people ties between Japan and the Philippines, with basketball serving as a platform for cultural exchange during this milestone year.
“The 70-year relationship between Japan and the Philippines has been built not only through economic and diplomatic ties, but also through meaningful connections between our people. Basketball is one of the shared passions that brings our communities together, and TMP is proud to support experiences like the B.LEAGUE Manila Games that help strengthen these connections,” said Masando Hashimoto, President of TMP.
Beyond basketball, the two countries have built connections through culture, tourism, business, education, and the arts. Toyota’s own presence in the Philippines has also contributed to this relationship through decades of automotive operations, including local manufacturing, employment, skills development, and support for the Philippine automotive industry.
Filipino Fans Meet B.LEAGUE Action
The Manila Games also gave Filipino basketball fans the chance to watch Filipino players Dwight Ramos of Levanga Hokkaido and AJ Edu of Gunma Crane Thunders compete for their respective B.LEAGUE clubs on home soil.
The games brought together Japanese and Filipino basketball communities while giving local fans a closer look at Japan’s professional basketball scene.
Bringing the Toyota Experience to the Games

Adding to the on-ground experience, TMP set up the TOYOTA Challenge Zone, where attendees could take part in interactive basketball challenges and get the chance to win prizes.
The event also featured the Toyota Choice MVP award, with TMP Marketing Division Senior Vice President Ryo Yokoyama presenting the award to AJ Edu of the Gunma Crane Thunders.
